Fair Use Management Application for Dynamic Control of Broadband Consumption

Camiant's Fair Use Management™ (FUM) solution enables cable operators to dynamically manage broadband utilization.

Cable operators can now address all sources of congestion in a way that assures maximum levels of customer satisfaction within existing capacity limitations. With FUM, operators can also ensure that ongoing capacity expansion is calibrated to the true needs of the customer base as a whole. Camiant’s FUM solution offers the following features:

Provides an application-agnostic approach that helps address IP traffic congestion to ensure customer satisfaction.
Works with Camiant's proven policy server and partner systems, such as Internet Protocol Detail Records (IPDR) collectors and deep packet inspection devices, as needed to apply sophisticated policy management techniques. This allows operators to establish and enforce bandwidth quotas based on individual service flows rather than content.
Allows policies that establish bandwidth quotas by individual user and the actions that should be taken if the user exceeds quota, which can vary by time of day or network conditions.
Lets operators set policies to dynamically maintain balanced broadband performance no matter what the sources of high consumption might be at any given time within a service area.
Provides an easily communicated network management solution that assures fair allocation of broadband resources among all users.

Camiant's Fair Use Management solution is available today and is part of a robust policy management infrastructure that supports DOCSIS® 3.0 and PacketCable™ 2.0.

Yankee Group

"The precipitous rise of global network traffic in the coming years will force operators to take a new look at how best to manage their networks to handle increasingly dire capacity restraints," said Dianne Northfield, director Regulatory Research, Yankee Group. "Cable operators would be wise to examine how they can employ application agnostic policy controls that will allow for better bandwidth management while maintaining compliance with transparency and nondiscrimination requirements in an evolving regulatory environment."
